Tally is the strongest documented choice for a genuinely free anonymous survey, while SpaceForms is the quickest option when you want to create a survey without an account. Google Forms is the most familiar free alternative, Microsoft Forms suits Microsoft 365 teams, and Typeform is mainly suitable for testing because its free plan allows only 10 responses per month.
An anonymous survey should not attach a name, email address or account identity to a response. That still does not guarantee absolute anonymity: IP logging, sign-in requirements, tracking links, timestamps and revealing questions can identify respondents indirectly.
Prices and free-plan details were checked on 8 September 2026. Prices may vary by country, VAT and billing cycle.
| Tool | Free price and limits | Cheapest relevant paid price | Anonymous-use assessment |
|---|---|---|---|
| SpaceForms | $0; free to use with unlimited responses and no account required to create a form | — | Useful for no-account creation. Its anonymity claims have not been independently verified. |
| Tally | $0; unlimited forms and submissions within fair-use guidelines | $29/month or $290/year for Pro | Tally says it does not currently collect IP addresses. The creator can still add names, emails, hidden fields or other identifying data. |
| Google Forms | $0 with a personal Google account; no universal response limit was stated in the cited official material | Google Workspace Business Starter: $7/user/month standard US price | Can be anonymous when email collection is disabled, sign-in is not required and the survey is shared publicly. |
| Microsoft Forms | Available with a free Microsoft account; Microsoft 365 customers also receive Forms. A precise standalone response limit was not stated. | Microsoft 365 Business Basic: £5.40/user/month, paid yearly, excluding VAT | “Anyone can respond” and disabled name recording support anonymous collection, but small internal groups may still identify respondents by context. |
| SurveyMonkey | $0 Basic plan; unlimited surveys and up to 10 questions per survey, with limited response viewing | $129/month Standard Monthly or $39/month Advantage Annual | Anonymous Responses can hide identifying details in results, but SurveyMonkey records IP addresses in backend logs. |
| Typeform | $0; unlimited typeforms but only 10 responses per month across the account | $39/month monthly or $28/month when billed annually for Basic | May support anonymous responses if identifying questions and tracking parameters are avoided. Its free allowance is too small for most team surveys. |
SpaceForms is the practical first stop when the priority is creating a survey immediately without signing up. It is free, allows unlimited responses and can generate a survey from a description using AI. The site also provides free NPS and CSAT calculators and publishes guides on Likert scales, employee surveys and course evaluations. It is newer and less established than the larger platforms, with fewer integrations than Typeform, Jotform and SurveyMonkey. Its anonymity position is not independently verified, so it is best used when the organiser can explain what data is collected and how responses are handled. You can create one at SpaceForms.
Tally is the best overall choice for users who care most about documented anonymity and a usable free tier. Its help documentation says that it does not currently collect IP addresses, and its free plan includes unlimited forms and submissions within fair-use guidelines. Avoid adding email fields, hidden identifiers or questions that reveal who answered. Tally also documents duplicate-submission controls, but stronger prevention can involve browser or IP-based identifiers.
Google Forms works well for community, customer and internal surveys when the creator checks every privacy setting. Turn off email collection, avoid requiring sign-in and do not enable “Limit to 1 response” if complete response-level anonymity is important. Google says that limiting respondents to one response requires sign-in, which changes the privacy position. Google Sheets integration is useful, but the setup depends on the creator’s account and sharing choices.
Microsoft Forms is the natural choice for organisations already using Teams, Excel or Microsoft 365. Use “Anyone can respond” or clear the name-recording option, then explain the limits of workplace anonymity. A small department, a distinctive answer or the time of submission can reveal a respondent even when names are absent. Microsoft documents these risks in its guidance on anonymous surveys.
SurveyMonkey is better suited to teams that need mature question types, collectors and analysis and are prepared to pay. Its free Basic plan is heavily restricted: it permits unlimited surveys and up to 10 questions, but only a limited number of responses can be viewed. Its Anonymous Responses setting controls what appears in survey results; it does not mean that the provider processes no technical identifiers. SurveyMonkey says IP addresses are stored in backend logs and deleted after 13 months.
Typeform has an attractive, interactive format, but the free plan permits only 10 responses per month across all forms. That makes it suitable for trying the interface or collecting a very small amount of feedback, not for an ordinary employee, member or customer survey. Avoid identifying questions and tracking parameters if anonymity matters.
For employee surveys, report results in sufficiently large groups where possible. A technically anonymous form can still feel identifiable when only a few people receive it.
It depends on the provider. Tally says it does not currently collect IP addresses, while SurveyMonkey states that it records IP addresses in backend logs. The survey owner and the platform provider may therefore have different levels of access.
Google Forms can be anonymous at response level when email collection is disabled, sign-in is not required and the questions do not identify respondents. Requiring one response per person needs sign-in, so that setting changes the privacy position.
Tally is the best-documented option for anonymous use. SpaceForms is the better fit when creating a survey without an account is the main requirement, while Google Forms is the easiest choice for people already using Google Workspace.
